Self-care, I’m sure you’ve heard those words a thousand times. If you follow me on Instagram you will have seen my self-care Sunday posts every week. But what is self-care and why do I go on about it all the time?
It is so easy to put everyone and everything around you first; your partner, your children, your parents or other family. Your workload, your unpaid commitments, your work colleagues, and your friends. How easy is it to buy something that will make a loved one smile but think twice when it’s something for yourself? How easy is it to say yes to an extra commitment which means you won’t get home until late? How easy is it to skip a meal to meet a deadline? These are just a few examples of how you might be missing out on vital self-care without really thinking about it. As much as everyone dear to you is very important, you are number one. Only you can keep yourself well both physically and mentally. I’m sure you’ve heard phrases before; you can’t pour from an empty cup, you can’t burn the candle at both ends. They’re well-known, but are you paying attention? To be fully present and content in everything you do, you need to look after yourself.
So how can you do this?
Firstly, you can consider the questions asked above and decide whether these are areas you need to work on. Self-care doesn’t always need to be elaborate; there are simple daily tasks that are extremely important. If you’re not meeting your basic daily needs of a good sleep routine, drinking plenty of water, eating well and getting some form of exercise, start here!
If these sound like mammoth tasks due to your commitments or current routine, arrange to talk to me today to guide you back into a healthy routine.
Got these sorted? You’re on the right track to amazing self-care! The basics are in check, so what else can you be doing? Honestly, I could write a book on this so not everything you need will be in this one blog… check back next month for another instalment. In the meantime, you can get more ideas every Sunday on Instagram. If you’re feeling like self-care is out of reach for you, I can help. Book your call today.
